The Kovalam Surf Club supported by a larger wing, NGO SISP, is amongst many surf clubs in Kovalam which offer surfing classes to people from ages 6-60. Timings are from 10am to 5pm and price starts from Rs400 per person for surfing classes.

For a thrill session of surfing along the waves, the best time to surf in Kovalam beach is from May to October when the south swells are consistent. However, this is also the wet season of Kerala so it is not very beginner friendly during this time and can get uncomfortable during the rains. Winter season from October to February is much drier and the water is pleasant during this time. Waves are smaller and unpredictable but enough for the beginners to learn surfing.

  • By Train: The nearest railway station is Trivandrum Central Railway Station which is at 15km from the beach. The station is connected to almost every city in India and buses and taxis are easily available from the station to get to the beach.
  • By Road: The Kovalam beach is nestled on the way to Mahabalipuram and the distance from the Chennai is approx. 40km. If you are traveling from Chennai, the best way to visit the beach is by road. There are direct buses to Kovalam and you can also take direct cab to Kovalam beach which will save you a lot of time and hassle.
