Surf Schools: Although surfing is enjoyed in the beach, due to the presence of highway there are no surf schools nearby. You will have to surf schools in neighboring areas and then enjoy the newfound skill in the waves of Maravanthe beach.

  • Shaka Surf Club– One of the first surfing schools in India with the first female surf instructor, the instructors here are also known as surfing swamis and have been doing this since more than a decade. Located in Bengre village in Udupi, Karnataka, not very far from Murudeshwar, Shaka surf school has all you want as a surf beginner.

  • It is mandatory to know basic pool swimming
  • It is a water sports and requires only a minimum degree of physical fitness

  • Avoid alcohol intake before or during surfing

Best Time to Visit Maravanthe Beach for Surfing

The ideal time to visit Maravanthe Beach is from September to March when the weather is pleasant, and the swimming opportunities are at its best. Surfing can be enjoyed to the fullestduring Autumn season and most importantly in the month of October. The beach has heavy tides, so it is not very safe for surfing for most times of the year.

The summers are very hot and not very suitable for beach visit during the day. You can visit dung the monsoons too, but the watersports will not be available during the heavy rainfall. Clean surfable waves are usually found 43% of the time in October while 42% of the time it tends to be blown out. For the remaining 15%, the waves are considered too small but are ideal for beginners.

  • By Air: The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport from Maravanthe beach.
  • By Train: Kundapura railway station is the closest at about 20km of distance from Maravanthe via Karwar Express. You can then take local transportation to reach the beach. There are local trains too which stop at stations Senapura and Bijoor that are close to Maravanthe. Express trains only stop at Kundapura station.
  • By Road: You can hire a taxi from Kundapura town to Maravanthe beach which is at 23km via NH 66.
