Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh

Dhamtari is a municipal corporation and the administrative capital of the Dhamtari district in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is part of the Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency, which was created on July 6, 1998.

  • Gangrel Dam : The Gangrel Dam, which spans the Mahanadi River, is Chhattisgarh’s longest dam. The dam is a remarkable architectural accomplishment with a length of 1,830 meters! It is located in the Dhamtari district, around 15 kilometers from Dhamtari's major town and 90 kilometers from Raipur. Gangrel Dam is also ideal for leisure activities with family or friends, as well as cutting-edge watersports like jet skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, sailing, parasailing, and kite surfing. The dam, which overlooks the raging torrents of the Mahanadi River, is a beautiful sight to witness. The water's edge is lined with resorts and sandbars, giving it the impression of a little Goa!

  • Sivaha: This is one of Chhattisgarh's most important pilgrimage sites. Surrounded by trees and mountains, the location lies on the banks of the Mahanadi River and offers breathtaking views.Other notable attractions in this area include Amrit Kund, Danteshwari Cave, Ganesh Ghat, Karbeshwar Temple, and the Ashram of Hringi Hathi Khot.

  • By Air -
    Dhamtari lacks a proper airport of its own. Raipur, around 75 kilometers from Dhamtari, has the nearest airport. Regular flights from here are operated by Jet Airways and Indigo, linking it to all major cities. Prepaid cabs can be be found at the Raipur Airport.
  • By Train - Dhamtari is very well connected by train to the rest of India. The principal railway junction that connects Dhamtari town to the rest of India is Dhamtari railway station. Autorickshaws and taxis are available for hiring at the railway station.
  • By Road -
    Regular bus services, whether express or sleeper, run to and from Dhamtari. They run on a daily basis over a well-connected network of national highways such as NH 30 and a number of state highways from places such as Raipur, Bhilai, and others. On the same trip, you can also take shared taxis or cabs.
